UNWTO.Volunteers Programme
Applied Training in Development Assistance

This programme consists in offering support to the Member States of the UNWTO and international cooperation agencies with the aim of contributing to the sustainable development of tourism. This line of work is carried out through the UNWTO.Volunteers Programme and, as an additional objective, it is aimed at training young professionals in tourism as an instrument for development.
 
Objectives
  • To support the UNWTO Member States and international cooperation agencies in the formulation and implementation of plans, programmes and projects through the technical contribution of UNWTO experts and volunteers.
  • To train, in both theory and practice, professionals with the suitable vocation and aptitudes in the field of tourism as an instrument for development: Volunteers.
  • To disseminate, through education and training, the policies of the UNWTO in the field of tourism, especially, tourism's role as an instrument of development and its potential to contribute to poverty reduction.
This programme is carried out through two lines of work:

Volunteers in action
This programme accomplishes the objective of supporting the national, regional and local tourism administrations of the Member States of the UNWTO, and other international cooperation bodies and agencies in the formulation and/or implementation of plans and projects for the sustainable development of tourism, through the participation of highly qualified volunteers led by experts of the UNWTO and previously trained by the UNWTO.Themis Foundation.

University Course on Tourism and International Cooperation for Development
This course is aimed at training university graduates and professionals in subject areas related to development and international cooperation through tourism, so that they can form part of volunteer teams of the UNWTO and/or other international cooperation agencies.
